Can I Rollover My Wife’s 401k Into Mine

The short answer to this is: No, you cannot rollover your wife’s 401(k) into yours.

A 401(k) rollover transfers funds from the 401(k) into an IRA. When the transfer occurs, the individual’s name and Social Security number must be the same on the 401(k) documents as it is on the IRA documents.

That means your wife’s (or husband’s) 401(k) is in her name with her Social Security number on it. It cannot be transferred into your 401(k) or IRA because your IRA has your Social Security number attached to it.

Since the numbers and names wouldn’t be the same, the transfer would not be allowed.
