How to Use a Tiller

Need to break up soil for a new garden or a lawn? Use a roto-tiller. Roto-tillers are a great way to cultivate your garden and get the soil loose before planting. Before you begin tilling pull up thick weeds, the tiller will be able to mulch down small ones. So, when is the best time to till? About a day or so after it rains, when the soil is damp is the best time to till. To begin, set the depth of the blades to a shallow setting. Make horizontal passes in the garden and let the tiller do the work. Once you have made horizontal rows up and down the garden, set the depth of tiller to the deepest setting and till vertically.
